Who is Word Play?

Word Play was founded by De Henderson (B.Ed, M.SPECED) in 2010 after working with children with learning disabilities in both school and small group environments. Witnessing the effectiveness of small group and one-on-one tutoring, I aim to assist as many children as possible in reaching their academic potential and preparing them for life.

What and Why?

By merging the best literacy teaching strategies with the benefits of learning through play, Word Play introduces a novel approach to literacy instruction for children who struggle to grasp it in traditional school settings.

As someone with ADHD and Autism, my aspiration is to create an environment where all children feel comfortable and accepted.

The goal is to establish a Word Play clinic in Sydney's Inner West that is neuro-affirming and offers a place for children to connect with peers in small groups.

When and Where?

In 2025, Word Play is relaunching after relocating from Sydney's Eastern suburbs to the Inner West. Currently, I offer one-on-one literacy tutoring at your home. Eventually, the plan is to conduct small group sessions in their own dedicated space.

I look forward to collaborating with you and your family to foster confidence and a passion for learning.
